Meet Dan

I’m Dan Heinkel, a commercial food and product photographer based in Philadelphia.

Like most people, I love to eat; I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. I also enjoy cooking. When I was younger, my grandmother would babysit me during the summers. One morning, she taught me how to cook an omelet – cracking the eggs, adding a couple vegetables, and sprinkling some salt and pepper. I was so proud of myself. As simple as it was, creating a dish from those ingredients sparked a life-long interest in the creative minds who do it on a much larger and complex scale.

Photography came a little later in life. I picked up my first camera as a hobby and a creative outlet from my 9-5 job in healthcare marketing. Through workshops and some classes at the Art Institute, I built a foundational knowledge of lighting and composition to create images that captured the world as I saw it.

My mission as a food photographer is to stimulate people’s interest and appetites through powerful images. Being able to tell a story and make someone physically hungry through an image is what I aim to do with every shot.

So, do you have a story you want to tell or a food you want someone to try? Let’s work together and connect with your audience.
